Self-Denial Feels Like Suffering

No Pain, No Gain

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from 1 Peter 4:1-6. He reminded us that to do God’s will we have to resist our own. We must think like our Savior and be resolved to deny ourselves, to not fit in with the world, and to live for the future instead of the moment.

Suffering Optional

Some Suffering is a Choice

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from 1 Peter 3:8-17. We have no say in many of life’s trials. However, when it comes to suffering for righteousness’ sake, there are plenty of times we have to choose. Faithfulness to God often means ridicule from men. When faced with the choice, we choose to suffer because the good life is a life of fellowship with our Savior, not a life of worldly comfort.

Honor Everyone

A Counterintuitive & Countercultural Command

On Sunday Pastor Mike preached from 1 Peter 2:13-25. Jesus, who suffered silently at the hands of unjust authorities, calls His followers to do the same. We are to honor even those who act dishonorably. Politicians. Bosses. We submit to our great Overseer by submitting to those he has placed in authority over us.

The First Section Of Genesis Is Finished

Pastor Eric preached from Genesis 11:10-32 this past Sunday finishing up the first major section of the book. We now take a detour to the book of 1 Peter. Eric summed up this section by reminding us that the pace of our lives is slow, the details of our lives are forgotten, and nobody is perfect. But God is faithfully bringing His plans to pass. He’s using our lives. He’s regenerating the entire cosmos for His glory and our good.

Trembling Joy

What does it feel like to fear a God who is for you?

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from Genesis 8:20-9:17. Just like Noah, we are in the center of God’s awesome power yet completely safe. We fear God and we love Him. We tremble before Him and we feel His tender care.

Step Out Into A New World

Never lose the wonder of your new life in Christ

On Sunday Pastor Mike preached from Genesis 8:1-19. Noah and his family leave the ark and set foot on a renewed world. This corresponds to the life of every Christian. Those who hide themselves in Christ walk in newness of life now and will one day inhabit a completely renewed cosmos.

This Is Not A Children's Story

Noah and the Flood

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached the opening verses of the story of the great flood from Genesis 6:9-22. He reminded us of this sobering truth: nobody can escape the consequences of their sin unless they get in the boat. The flood reminds us that God sees every sin and injustice, God judges everything sin touches, and God saves those who trust in His mercy.

First Friday Fast - June

Join us in fasting on the first Friday of every month in 2018. Church members who fast for all 12 Fridays will be invited to a year-end party to celebrate the answers to our prayers.

If fasting is new to you, here are some instructions.

STUDENTS AND YOUTH

Our prayer focus for June is the students and youth of our community.

  • Pray for those in our church graduating from high school and transitioning into college. That God would remain steadfast though their lives are changing in big ways.
  • Pray that our faith would be passed down to the elementary and high school students in our church.
  • Pray that God would use our church to minister the gospel to students from surrounding universities and colleges: Chapman, Santiago Community College, CSUF, UCI.
  • Pray that God would bless the students and teachers in the elementary schools and high schools in Orange.
  • Pray that God would use members of our community to care for the approximately 28,000 homeless youth in our county.
