On Sunday Pastor Dustin preached from Philippians 2:5-11. Jesus Christ came into the world as a man to represent imperfect men before God. He took the lowest road imaginable, death on a cross. The Prince of Life forfeited His life so that we could be saved. All this He did to serve us. And we respond by gladly serving Him.
On Sunday church member Israel Carbajal preached from 1 Peter 2:11-12. He reminded us that true liberty is found in obeying God — a liberty won for us by Jesus’ death and resurrection. We are not window-shopping the world. Rather, we joyfully obey God’s commands in order to experience peace, produce holiness, and give God the glory.
On Sunday church member Jason Roenicke preached from Psalm 37:1-7. He pointed out that it’s easy to become envious of those who “succeed” in life. It seems that the wicked run the world. But that’s not true. God runs the world. We must fight to trust in Him, delight in Him, commit to Him, and wait patiently for Him.
On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from Genesis 8:20-9:17. Just like Noah, we are in the center of God’s awesome power yet completely safe. We fear God and we love Him. We tremble before Him and we feel His tender care.
On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from Genesis 2:1-3, the seventh day of creation. After completing all His creative work God rested. Not because He was tired, but because He was done. He rests from His work of creation but not from His work of redemption. We enter that rest now by believing in God’s only begotten Son.
In part 3 of our 4-part sermon series on the culture of our church, Pastor Dustin preached from Acts 2:42-47. He reminded us that there is no shame being ordinary Christians in an ordinary church. Our ordinary, day-in, day-out efforts are the very stage on which God does His extraordinary work.
On Sunday, Pastor Eric continued our 4-week series on the culture of our church preaching from Luke 19:1-10. He took us to the story of Zacchaeus to display the transforming power of Jesus. He changes us from greedy to giving. We have everything we need. We spend our lives gladly because we have nothing to lose.
On Sunday, Pastor Dustin preached from John 15:1-11 beginning a 4-week sermon series on the culture of our church. What kind of church is Sovereign Grace? A community of joy. We exhibit the joy of Jesus in many ways: our songs, our smiles, our perseverance, our love for one another. It’s not fake, happy-clappy joy. It’s deep-seated and indestructible. Let’s exhibit it all the more.
