Turn Your Eyes By Lifting Your Voice

This Sunday we sing a new and expanded rendition of an old song. You may have sung the one verse hymn “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” in the past. But our friends at Sovereign Grace Music have updated it and we’re excited to sing it with you.

Listen to Turn Your Eyes

VERSE 1
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

VERSE 2
Turn your eyes to the hillside
Where justice and mercy embraced
There the Son of God gave His life for us
And our measureless debt was erased

CHORUS
Jesus, to You we lift our eyes
Jesus, our glory and our prize
We adore You, behold You, our Savior ever true
Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to You

VERSE 3
Turn your eyes to the morning
And see Christ the lion awake
What a glorious dawn, fear of death is gone
For we carry His life in our veins

VERSE 4
Turn your eyes to the heavens
Our King will return for His own
Every knee will bow, every tongue will shout
All glory to Jesus alone

A Strong Start To 2020

Happy New Year!

The new year is almost here. And we want to help you grow in 2020. There are a number of wonderful discipleship opportunities and we want to encourage you to join in.

Small Groups

Small groups are where meaningful discipleship takes place. It’s here where we know and are known by others. It’s here we help one another follow Jesus in the stuff of everyday life. Though we host these all year long, there’s no better time than the beginning of the year to jump in.

Sunday School

The pastors begin teaching the book of Proverbs for the four Sundays of January. Proverbs meet us at the level of everyday life. Practical help is what we’re after. Details are here. Plan to join us at 9:30am on Sundays before our service.

Money Management Class

Les and Sue Card run a class for those who want to better steward their finances. If you need a money mentor, we can’t urge you enough: sign up now!

Women’s Study

The women of Sovereign Grace are studying “Delighting in the Trinity” by Michael Reeves. This book will expand your mind and increase your love for God. Join them once per month starting in January.

Men’s Study

Our men’s study picks up the book “Conscience: What Is, How to Train It, and Loving Those Who Differ” by Andy Naselli and J.D. Crowley. This book is all about calibrating our moral compasses according to Scripture. This book will be crucial to helping us maintain a peaceful life as a church. Get more details and sign up.

Morning Prayer Meeting

Every Tuesday morning from 6:30am-7:15am, a group gathers at the church offices to pray. God is hearing us. He is stretching our faith and growing our expectations of what He plans to do among us. Make this part of your weekly routine.

Now To Him

Praise God Above All

On Sunday church member Israel Carbajal preached from Ephesians 3:20-21. We are to reserve our highest praise for God. He is able to do more. His power toward us is immeasurably great. His glory never ends. May we worship Him in 2020.

Biblical Help For Everyday Life

“Jesus is our priest and our prophet, but in the book of Proverbs we encounter Jesus as our mentor.”
-Ray Ortlund

New Sunday School Format For 2020

We announced at our members meeting that Sunday School would be changing for this next year. Instead of running all year, we will host four 1-month classes in each quarter of the year.: January, April, July, and October. The first class is coming up quick.

Playing By God’s Rules

January’s Sunday School class will focus on how to read and interpret the Proverbs. This book is much more than a collection of wise sayings. It is the very wisdom of God in written form. It is incredibly practical, showing us how to live as God’s people, how to work, how to be a good friend, and who to avoid.

If you need wisdom for life, join us for the four Sundays of January at 9:30am in the Woman’s Club garden.

The Last Few Days Of Our Bible Memorization Challenge
Scripture Memorization.png

December’s Verse: Isaiah 9:6-7 (ESV)

6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

4 Days Left!

The year is almost over and this is the last month! You’ve got enough time to get the verse memorized and submitted. But you’ve got to move quickly.

How to Participate

For memorizing, we recommend you read the verse 10 times then recite it 10 times. Do this each day and within a few days it will stick. Learn more about how to memorize Scripture here and here.

Once you have it memorized, recite it for us before the month is over. You have two options:

  1. Record a video and send it to info@sovgraceoc.org. You’re on the honor system. We trust you.
    OR

  2. Head to our Welcome Desk on a Sunday morning and recite it to one of the Connect Team members. After you do, send an email to info@sovgraceoc.org letting us know which Connect Team member you recited it to.
