What Are You Looking Forward To?

Last week, our pastors traveled to Orlando for our denomination’s annual pastors conference. Their week was rich with fellowship, singing, and great preaching.

One of the highlights was a message by Rick Gamache entitled, “All Things New.” Fortunately, all the messages are online. The pastors want to encourage you to set aside an hour to listen to this one. It’s a stirring description of the way we should meditate on the future Christ promises for those who love Him.

If you’ve got the time, here are two others that will also serve your soul:

Our First Kids' Choir

On Sunday 12/22/2019, we are pulling together a kids’ choir. They’ll be singing a Christmas carol during our Sunday service.

Not only is this sure to be adorable, but it’ll be formative for the kids. As they sing the truths of the gospel, God will be presenting His Son to them. Check out this video to hear a story of how a Children’s Choir has had an effect on one local church.

Here’s who we’re looking for:

  • Kids ages 4-10 willing to sing

  • With parents who will work on the song with them at home and in the car

  • Who can attend a brief rehearsal on Saturday 12/21

  • And sing with the choir on Sunday 12/22

If that’s your kid, then email Alie and she’ll get you on the list.

A Hearty Welcome To Our Newest Members

“But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.”
— 1 Cor. 12:18

God saves people and then joins them to a local church — a community of brothers and sisters who labor alongside them as they follow Jesus. This past Sunday, we received two new members at Sovereign Grace Church: Natalie and Daniel. Both shared how God brought them in. Below is a brief snippet from each of them.

Natalie:

I visited Sovereign Grace Church of Orange about four years ago when I was visiting my extended family down here in Southern California. I remember how we were warmly greeted and also asked out for lunch by Jordan Gillstrom and David Christensen.

I remember, looking back and thinking, “The music is loud, but I could get used to it and if I were to ever attend a church other than my home church, it would be here.” Time passed and I got the opportunity to move down to OC to attend UC Irvine.

I was pleased to find the church still here and as on fire for the Lord as ever. I’m really thankful to have a church family for however long the Lord has me here.

Daniel:

I  didn’t come to Orange primarily looking for a church. I came to study screenwriting in a graduate program at Chapman University. My thoughts at the time were: "Yes!  Surely God is setting me up to be hired in Hollywood right after graduation!”

Yeah right. God had some surprises in store for me. The main one had to do with Center Street. And I'm not talking about the Public Library. I'm talking about you, Sovereign Grace Church.

God has used you to show me what magnifying Christ is all about. You revel in the grace of God. I’m still learning how, and that’s why I’m here.

Amen! Praise God for building His church here in Orange.

Your Pastors Love Serving You

1 So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”
— 1 Peter 5:1-4

Every month your pastors meet twice: once to discuss a range of items related to leading the church and another with their wives for fellowship, care, and growth.

With busy lives and bi-vocational pastors, these meetings are crucial. We want God to use their time together to strengthen our pastors so that they can effectively serve us.

Wednesday is the pastors and wives meeting. Friday is just the pastors. Join us in praying for them and their families this week.

True Freedom

The Freedom to Obey God Rather Than Our Passions

On Sunday church member Israel Carbajal preached from 1 Peter 2:11-12. He reminded us that true liberty is found in obeying God — a liberty won for us by Jesus’ death and resurrection. We are not window-shopping the world. Rather, we joyfully obey God’s commands in order to experience peace, produce holiness, and give God the glory.
