Let's Make Memories With Our First Kids' Choir

On Sunday 12/22/2019, we are pulling together a kids’ choir. They’ll be singing a Christmas carol during our Sunday service.

Not only is this sure to be adorable, but it’ll be formative for the kids. As they sing the truths of the gospel, God will be presenting His Son to them. Check out this video to hear a story of how a Children’s Choir has had an effect on one local church.

Here’s who we’re looking for:

  • Kids ages 4-10 willing to sing

  • With parents who will work on the song with them at home and in the car

  • Who can attend a brief rehearsal on Saturday 12/21

  • And sing with the choir on Sunday 12/22

If that’s your kid, then email Alie and she’ll get you on the list.

Anne's Testimony

This past Sunday we honored Anne Adam, who has served us faithfully as the pastors’ administrative assistant for the past 4 years. Now, she’s transitioning off of the staff. This Sunday was her last Sunday as a staff member.

We couldn’t be more grateful for her and her family. The Adams have given their lives to build our church and we’re grateful that will continue.

We asked Anne to share with us the ways she has seen God at work in you as she’s worked behind the scenes. Here’s what she said:

I have always regarded it a privilege to work here and to get paid for serving. I am grateful to you guys for this time and I look back with gratitude. God has been kind to us and it is so evident in how he always provides and cares for us.

I had the unique opportunity to work with our pastors and spend lots of time in the office, working alongside them. And while I did learn many of their weird quirks, I come away from working with them with a deep sense of gratitude for God’s kindness to me and to us as a church.

A few things that stand out to me as I got both a front row seat and a backstage look at our church:

  1. Your pastors love you and they love serving you. When they mention you in conversations, they speak fondly of you. They know you, they care about you and they pray for you.

  2. Your pastors take their calling seriously and work hard to be faithful in the seen and unseen. For every time I came to the church office, they made sure that we kept the “Billy Graham rule”, meaning they avoided being alone with me at the office, and instead would make sure there were always at least three of us there. Yes, that was often inconvenient. Yet how encouraging for us as a church and for our pastor’s families, to know that they value integrity and honor policies like this one, a policy that nobody really sees on the outside but one that honors God and protects the church.

  3. Another thing I had the privilege of really understanding is how throughout our church’s history God used the unique gifts of the pastors to work together for the sake of the church. In the beginning, it was bare bones: Pastor Mike and Eric leading the church. Some of you might not know this, but Pastor Eric is quite the minimalist. Because of how he focused on the essentials early on, and how Pastor Mike always used his gifts in caring for people, we were set up for growth as a baby church plant. Later on, God added more leaders and provided for more input to the pastoral team. We grew, had more ministry opportunities and built pathways for new leaders. God has been incredibly kind to us in giving us so many good leaders in the church.

There is so much to point out and to celebrate. I know you have your own list too. I love that we are a church that is quick to point out God’s grace among us. As we start a new season of a very lean church staff, let’s be confident that God will provide as he always has, for all of us, beyond measure.

Join us in thanking God for the Adams, encouraging them, and praying for them in this season.

2 Days To Complete October Bible Memory Challenge
Scripture Memorization.png

October’s Verse: John 15:1-5 (ESV)

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

2 Days Left

October is nearly over, but there’s still time to complete the challenge for this month. Act now, don’t delay.

How to Participate

For memorizing, we recommend you read the verse 10 times then recite it 10 times. Do this each day and within a few days it will stick. Learn more about how to memorize Scripture here and here.

Once you have it memorized, recite it for us before the month is over. You have two options:

  1. Record a video and send it to info@sovgraceoc.org. You’re on the honor system. We trust you.
    OR

  2. Head to our Welcome Desk on a Sunday morning and recite it to one of the Connect Team members. After you do, send an email to info@sovgraceoc.org letting us know which Connect Team member you recited it to.

Reformapalooza 2019 Is In The Books
IMG-4040.jpg

Our annual celebration of the Protestant Reformation was a blast. The kids played games. We ate a mountain of bratwurst plus sides and desserts. Many volunteers served heroically to make it happen.

A big thanks to the Davises for making and running our games.
A big thanks to Ben and Bri for grilling tons of bratwurst.
A big thanks to Israel for emceeing.
And a big thanks to Anne, Jess, and the setup/teardown crews who ran logistics.

Check out a few photos here.

If you have photos from Reformapalooza, we’d love to see them! Send them to photos@sovgraceoc.org.

Church Budget

We publish updates on our financial status throughout the year. A final annual report is published every Fall.

These figures represent the grace of God at work in the members and friends of our local church. It's unmistakable. God is being kind towards us and we want to thank Him and you.

Thank you.

Of course, numbers are only a small fraction of all the way our church is contributing to the ministry of our church. Wouldn't it be great if we could publish a monthly report on your generous affections for one another? Or all the hours you spend together? Thank you for living no longer for yourselves but for God and your neighbor!

May the accounting of His provisions encourage your faith. Please continue to pray that we would steward it all for the advance of His gospel and the good of His church.

Treating Our Insecurity

A Firm Foundation for Our Identity

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from 1 Peter 2:4-10. Before we can know ourselves truly, we must know Jesus truly. He is the cornerstone; rejected by the world but chosen and precious to God. Only a life built on Him can endure. Our new identity is to proclaim His identity.
