Women Talking Like Women About God

Our Women’s Study is an opportunity to delve deeper into theological topics looking for ways these truths can be applied to the unique roles and callings of women.

This Fall, we learn about developing and growing deep, godly friendships. How do we overcome feelings of isolation and loneliness? How do we fit more relationships into our hectic schedules? How do we embrace the people God has put in our lives?

The book that will guide our discussions is Messy Beautiful Friendships by Christine Hoover.

Women's Study is for all female regular attenders of Sovereign Grace Church age 14 and older.  The next session starts on August 27th. The deadline to sign-up is Sunday, August 11th.

Your 2019 Challenge

This year we’ve challenged you to memorize 12 Bible Verses Every Californian Needs to Know. Each month we provide a Bible verse and you commit it to memory. For those who complete all 12 months, we will throw a party celebrating the ways God has strengthened you through His word.

August’s Verse: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (ESV)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

5 For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.

How to Participate

For memorizing, we recommend you read the verse 10 times then recite it 10 times. Do this each day and within a few days it will stick. Learn more about how to memorize Scripture here and here.

Once you have it memorized, recite it for us before the month is over. You have two options:

1. Record a video and send it to info@sovgraceoc.org. You’re on the honor system. We trust you.
   OR

2. Head to our Welcome Desk on a Sunday morning and recite it to one of the Connect Team members. After you do, send an email to info@sovgraceoc.org letting us know which Connect Team member you recited it to.

July’s Verse: Proverbs 3:5-8 (ESV)

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.

Bright and early tomorrow morning nine church members, from both the worship and A/V teams, are on their way to Louisville for Sovereign Grace Music’s WorshipGod Conference. They’ll spend four days attending seminars and eating meals together as they learn and grow.

We are so grateful for the investment of time, money, and energy they’re making to better serve us here in Southern California. If you’re wondering how to pray, here are a few things:

• Pray that our members would grow in love for one another. Pray for their family members staying back to be well taken care of in their absence.

• Pray that all of the attendees would encounter the goodness of the Lord. Through teaching and singing, may God Himself refresh their hearts.

• Pray for wisdom to determine what to bring back from the conference and put to practice here in our church.

• Pray for the speakers and organizers of the event, that God would bless their final preparations. Thank God for the many people giving their time and attention to make this conference happen.

• Pray that all of the churches who send people would benefit from the time their members spend at the conference.

May our Savior receive all the glory

Last week we asked you to pray for our lease negotiations with the Woman’s Club. And on Sunday we announced that God has answered our prayers. The property managers have given us another three year agreement.

For now, we’re here.

We’re grateful to God for providing the historic Woman’s Club of Orange as our place to gather every Sunday. Let’s celebrate His generosity to us.

Sin

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from Genesis 9:18-29. In the text, Noah fell into sin and shame, dragging his family with him. No one is immune. We all sin and we all need a Savior. We must look beyond Noah to Jesus Christ.
