"And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

'To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!'"
Revelation 5:13

The choruses we exhale now are fitting preparation for the songs we'll sing in heaven. Here are the ones we'll take up at this week's service:

  1. Holy, Holy, Holy
  2. His Name is Jesus
  3. Stronger
  4. Now Why This Fear

The Keys to Revelation (cont.)
IMG_5719.jpeg

Last Sunday, Pastor Eric introduced us to an additional interpretative key to understanding The Book of Revelation. These are going to be important principles as we continue on in our sermon series. So far we have:

  1. Jesus wants to comfort us, not confuse us.
  2. Numbers always "count" in The Book of Revelation.
  3. Revelation is the climax of the Old Testament, not current events.
  4. The visions are chronological, but the content not so much.

Hopefully these are helping. It's worth the work. His Word is life...

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no avail. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63 ESV)

Music gives voice to the heart. For Christians, our hearts are most affected by the kindness and mercy of God. His actions toward us evoke a multitude of deep-seated feelings. Joy. Repentance. Awe. These feelings we seek to express out loud as we raise our voices together.

Here's what we'll sing this Sunday:

  1. Crown Him With Many Crowns
  2. Glorious Christ
  3. Behold Our God
  4. 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)
  5. Revelation Song

"In [worship], the church centers its attention on who and what God is, not on itself." -Millard Erickson

The Creator and Sustainer of all things.
The Savior of sinful mankind.
The Judge of the nations.
The Redeemer of all that is broken.

God is the object of our attention and affection. He is the focus of our Sunday gatherings which means He is the focus of the songs we sing in those gatherings. Here's what we'll sing this week:

  1. God Over All
  2. How Great is Your Faithfulness
  3. His Forever
  4. Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)
  5. Behold Our God

Sunday School This Week

Most of us know the traffic laws and yet we still break them. Rolling a stop sign. Consistently driving above the speed limit. It makes you wonder: why bother having traffic laws if nobody completely follows them?  We've had to formulate a response to that question in order to justify their continued existence (and expansion).

The same question is asked of the laws that God assigns to us - specifically to laws regarding morality. Why would God give us laws if He knew we would break them? This is a big question on which rests the character of God and His relationship to humans. It's vital that we answer it correctly.

Our discussion at Sunday School this weekend will center around asking and answering Question 15 of the New City Catechism: Since no one can keep the law, what is its purpose? Join us at 10am in the garden of the Woman's Club as we work through this together.

"Our new song is an earthly song, a song of pilgrims and wayfarers upon whom the Word of God has dawned to light their way." -Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Though feelings of wandering and exile often creep into our minds, Christians know their ultimate destination. Our journey will end in God's presence, where we with unveiled face, will behold the glory of the Lord (2 Cor. 3:18). But while the journey continues, we need the light of our destination to shine so that we stay the course. Singing is a steady and wonderful reminder of the hope we hold fast to. Here's what we'll sing together on Sunday:

  1. Forever
  2. Mighty to Save
  3. All I Have is Christ
  4. Jesus, Lover of My Soul
  5. Before the Throne of God Above
