Fair Warning This Sunday

The Orange International Street Fair

This Sunday our community will hold one of the largest block parties in California. Our church is located one block away. This is going to be fun!

Arrive Early

Plan on arriving early than usual to locate a parking spot. The city will be charging to park in many of the lots and so will all the residents in the driveway. It's not really that bad since our service is early. The fair goers arrive later.

Stay Late

We'll be meeting up on the lawn in front of our church offices after the service. Bring some lunch or buy food at the fair. Look for us on the NE corner of Chapman and Grand. We'll be the ones people-watching.

Chili Champions 2016

Congratulations to the winners of our 2016 Freestyle Chili Cook Off. And big thanks to the record number of entries, especially the more unusual (and less "hot") items. Hurray for another summer.

Meetup After Church This Sunday

500,000 people are expected to visit our neighborhood this weekend for the Orange International Street Fair. There will be 15 ethnic streets with 42 food and drink booths. It's the biggest weekend of the year for Old Towne Orange.

Meetup After Church

We will set up picnic blankets on the lawn outside our church office (the corner of Chapman and Grand). Bring your overpriced street fair food, your kids, and enjoy the shade and fellowship.

Women Talking Like Women About God

Tea.ology

Tea.ology is monthly conversations in an informal setting, with "women talking like women" about God. The topics are chosen to challenge the group, and the discussion leader will ensure everyone is prepared before the meeting.

Enrollment is limited. You don't need to be a scholar, but you do need to be female, 18 years or older, a regular attender of Sovereign Grace, and willing to commit to a series of meetings.

Second Tuesdays, 7pm in Old Towne Orange

Chili Cook Off FAQ

Are you ready for Sunday? Here are some common questions and answers regarding our 4th Annual Freestyle Chili Cook Off.

1. When is it?

This coming Sunday immediately following our service. August 28.

2. How do I participate?

Register your chili here. and then come ready to vote for your favorites.

3. What is a "freestyle" cook off?

We don't take ourselves or our chili too seriously. If you call it chili, we will judge you. In the past, the winners have been anything from classic chili to spicy ice cream.

4. What are the categories?

There are three categories: Hottest Chili, Most Unusual Chili, and Best Chili. No one has won all three with one entry, but you can try!

5. How much chili should I bring?

Contestants should bring enough of your chili for approximately 80 samples. The church will provide sample cups and spoons.

Please note everyone brings their own lunch. The chili is for competing, not eating. This event is BYO lunch.

6. Where can I plug in my crockpot?

During the service you can use the outlets in the Woman's Club kitchen.

7. What are the prizes?

Entry into our Hall of Chili Champions, a fabulous trophy, and the respect of your fellow churchmen.

What We Want Is Beyond Us

9 leaders. 24 hours. 1 ambition.

Last weekend, some of our leaders took time to discuss the future. God is at work and we want to faithfully steward our calling as a congregation. Thank you for praying for them. We'll hear more about what they discussed in the coming months. It was a very joyful 24 hours.

Chili Cook Off Tips And Tricks

2016 Freestyle Chili Cook Off

Want to win it all? You're going to have to work hard to impress your friends. Here are a few helpful tips and tricks to ensure your entry into the immortal Hall of Chili Champions.

  • The name is the game. Theological puns, poking fun at our pastors, or hipster irony will win you points.
  • The power of presentation. Looking good is almost as good as tasting good. For example, Pastor Mike keeps bringing an open can of store-bought chili and, although a perennial runners-up, he proves the point. You must mask your store-bought chili in a crockpot!
  • You can't win it if you aren't in it. Duh. In fact, if nobody brings chili than we all lose. It's not really about the chili anyways, is it?
