Plaza Takeover This Sunday

A Meal Together in the City We Love

Make plans to have lunch with us immediately following our service this week. We gather in Plaza Park at noon. We enjoy fellowship and a meal in plain sight of our neighbors.

Bring your lunch to church, purchase take-out at any of the restaurants in Old Towne Orange, or get a slice of our world-famous Buck-O-Slice Pizza. Guests eat free.

Please bring a blanket or folding chair. We can’t wait to share a meal with you in the city we love.

A PG-13 Passage

Genesis 38, our sermon text for this Sunday, contains a number of references to sexual activity. We have many children in our service and we’re eager for them to learn God’s word with us! Every word in the Scriptures is true and necessary for us and our kids, this week’s chapter included. We don’t need to shy away, but we can be wise.

If you’re a parent with kids in our service, we encourage you to be aware and prepared. Here are a few ways you can do so:

  • Read Genesis 38 ahead of time.

  • Anticipate which parts of the passage your kids will have questions about.

  • Formulate an age-appropriate way to explain some of the sexual behavior. (Click here for an example.)

  • When you get home Sunday afternoon, ask your kids if they have any questions. Answer as best you can and trust the Lord will help you and your child.

If you’d like help preparing, please contact the church office and a pastor will be in touch.

Comforts And Crosses

"As to daily occurrences, it is best to trust that a daily portion of comforts and crosses—each one the most suitable to our case—is adjusted and appointed by the hand which was once nailed to the cross for us! We must trust, that where the path of duty and prudence leads us—that there is the best situation we could possibly be in, at that time."
John Newton

Pastor Dustin shared the above quote in his sermon this past Sunday.

John Newton is perhaps best known as the author of the famous hymn, “Amazing Grace.” But he had a profound impact as a pastor. In particular, his pastoral correspondence through letters has been preserved and published so that we can benefit from him today.

I Fell Into The Pit

How Did I Get Into This Pit?

On Sunday Pastor Dustin began the last major section of Genesis covering the life of Joseph as he preached from Genesis 37:1-36. We were reminded that we will end up in the pit. God puts us there. He doesn’t always tell us why. But we can rest assured that he has very good reasons. He is using sin and suffering to save us from sin and suffering.
