Five Reasons To Register For Our Men's Retreat
MRLogo-Black.png

Our first ever Men's Retreat is happening in Idyllwild, CA from April 19-21, 2018. Three California churches joining together to grow as 'Men On A Mission.'

Listed below are five compelling reasons why you should register right now:

Brothers. The Christian life is a team sport. God has welcomed us into a family and intends for us to depend on one another. As we think, pray, and share our lives together, God will work in us. Our concentrated time together will strengthen our bonds of friendship.

Athletics. For those of us cooped up in an office 40+ hours a week, nothing feels better than huffing and puffing on cool, mountain air. We have some friendly church vs church competitions planned to get your heart rate up and remind you how lucky you are to live at sea level.

Chow. And by chow we mean meat. Steak. Sausage. Bacon. The key ingredient to a successful men's retreat is a large amount of animal protein.

Orations. We will be well taught. Mark Prater, Sovereign Grace's Executive Director, is our keynote speaker. If you've never heard Mark speak, you're in for a treat. He is godly, wise, and humble and will tether everything to the gospel.

Nature. Few things help us reset and focus like taking a break from our hectic lives in the concrete jungle and spending some concentrated time in nature.

Set Your Clocks Ahead

We all lose an hour of sleep on Sunday morning. For those of you with real clocks, make sure you set them an hour ahead before your head hits the pillow Saturday night.

Even if you forget, you won't be late to church. Our morning service is canceled and our evening Communion Service starts at 5:00pm. Enjoy sleeping in.

Church Staff
It Takes An Army Of Volunteers

Servants of the Chief Servant

Every Sunday a small army of volunteers sets up our chairs and equipment, greets guests, provides music for our services, and cares for our children. They do it in response to Jesus who came not to be served but to serve and lay down His life.

If you would like to find a way to use your gifts to serve on Sunday mornings, we invite you to get in touch. We have opportunities and would love to get you plugged in. Please contact our church office right away and we will get back to you.

Prepare For Our Communion Service

We celebrate the sacrifice of Christ as a family

This Sunday marks our 3rd annual Communion Service (see photos from previous years). We gather for a huge banquet-style meal punctuated by moments of reflection on the broken body and shed blood of our Savior.

Sunday evening is designed to remind us that Christ has welcomed us into a family. We pray together. We sing together. We learn together. We eat together. We cry together. God is using it all to reinforce the truth that we are His adopted children, members of His household, and co-heirs with His Son. We will experience that in a pointed way this week.

FAQs

Our Sunday morning service is canceled. The Communion Service begins at 5pm at our normal meeting place, the Woman's Club of Orange. Everyone contributes. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we get asked:

What can I bring?

  • Households of 1 or 2 people bring a vegetable side or salad.

  • Households of 3 bring mashed potatoes.

  • Households of 4 or more brings mashed potatoes and a dessert.

Will there be childcare?

Not this Sunday. Family-style means everybody will be together the entire time. Kids will get antsy and that's ok. Don't feel bad about getting up and down from your seat with your children.

I have a baby/toddler. Does my household count as a 3 person household?

If you expect your child to eat the food we are sharing, count them. If not, or not really, err on the side of the smaller household number.

How can I keep my dish warm?

If you bring your food in a crockpot, you will be able to plug it in at the table.

I have special dietary needs. What is the main dish?

The main dish is chicken marinated in olive oil and spices. No gluten, no soy ingredients, and no sugar.

I have special dietary needs. Can I sit by food I am able to eat?

You can sit anywhere you like. If you don't find a place where you can fill your plate with enough food that fits your diet, please feel free to check other tables.

I am not sure if I/my children should participate in the Lord's Supper. What should I do?

Anyone who has placed their trust in Christ is invited to join us. Please read our statement on communion for more information.  We welcome you to contact one of our pastors if you would like to discuss further.

Is there anything else I can do to help?

Yes, please. Contact Anne for instructions.

Sam's Baptism

A Public Declaration Of An Inward Transformation

As a church body we witnessed Sam's baptism this past Sunday. By God's power she has been united to Christ and to our church. What a privilege to walk alongside her in newness of life.

"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by  the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." Rom. 6:4

Pastor Eric Traveling To Asia

You are sending Eric to Asia

This week Pastor Eric joins fellow pastors from our denomination on a two-week trip to India and Nepal. They will be training local pastors and growing existing partnerships.

By sending Eric, you are participating in the good work God is doing halfway across the world.

You are also welcome to participate by joining us in prayer. Here are four things you can be praying:

  1. That God would use them to equip Indian and Nepalese pastors to shepherd the flocks God has given them.
  2. That partnerships with local leaders and churches would be strengthened and positioned for growth.
  3. That God would keep them healthy and safe throughout their time in these countries.
  4. That the families of Eric and the other pastors would be well taken care of while the men are traveling.
Ladies Who Lead

Alice, Angie, Rebecca, Sue, Kirsi, Lisa, and Lois

These women have taken it upon themselves to be the visionaries and planners of our women's events (check out previous events here, here, and here). They've gone above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that the women of Sovereign Grace have meaningful opportunities to connect and grow. They make sacrifices because they love the One who made the ultimate sacrifice for them and for us.
