Celebrating our Friendships Last Sunday

Hosting a conference like Worship God 2014 has it's benefits.

We all get to make it to a session or two, we get to do "international ministry" without leaving our hometown, and the Sunday after the conference is always like one big happy family reunion.

Big thanks go out to Bob Kauflin and his crew from Sovereign Grace Music. Also in the mix was Matt Boswell and worship team. You guys rock.

And thanks to all the other first-timers and new friends who joined us last Sunday. Drop us a line on our Facebook Page and tell us about your Worship God experience. It's was so good to connect with you. We thank God for you and our partnership together.

We'd love to hear from you again.

#WGW14 Sunday In Old Towne Orange

Every Sunday is about Jesus.

We don’t deviate very often from the simple format of Word and song led by the members of church. Every week. Always Jesus. As many members of our congregation involved as possible. Our service is plain (by design) and the attraction is God, not us.

This Sunday is about Jesus.

What’s unusual about this week at Sovereign Grace is all the friends who will come to serve and encourage us about Jesus. You can expect out of town guests staying over from the Worship God Conference. You can expect members of other Sovereign Grace Churches. You can expect locals wanting to learn more about us. And in particular, you can expect:

  1. Coffee and Donuts - Come early and enjoy fellowship together. Sunday School is canceled and we are feeding you donuts. Hallelujah.
  2. Bob Kauflin from Sovereign Grace Music and worshipmatters.com - Bob Kauflin will be preaching from Psalm 96 and  “Worship as the Motivation for Missions.”
  3. Matt Boswell and Band - Matt Bowswell from Providence Church, The Gospel Coalition, and doxologyandtheology.com will be leading us in worship.

Well played church.

One of the sweetest moments last Sunday was when Pastor Eric announced that Jordan was about to lead worship for the first time ever...and the church erupted into a spontaneous round of applause and cheering.

Not for Jordan but for God.

You see, if we believe that life and talents are all gifts from God...if we believe that everyone is made of the likeness of God and that all good things are from God and the evidence of God's work in us today. Then when a young man or woman steps up and uses their abilities to serve others for Jesus, it is only fitting that we give God his due praise!

How could we just sit there silently?

The mighty God of redemption has another worship leader. It thrills our souls.

Two More Years At The Woman's Club

Have we ever told you how much we love our city?

Our church loves loves loves! the people and community of Orange, CA. Many of us live in Old Towne Orange and the rest live "on the border".

Well ok, maybe "on the border" is stretching it a bit geographically. But not in our hearts!

We live here. Shop here. Play here. Eat and drink in the restaurants. Participate in the library programs. Go to the summer concerts. Befriend the homeless and marginalized and basically make it our aim to be part of the lives of everyone who calls our town their town. We'll take whatever part of your life that you are willing to share with us.

We love you Orange.

So this is why it's with great pleasure that we say thanks for praying for our lease renegotiations. It's a done deal. We have another 2 years of Sunday services scheduled at the Woman's Club of Orange.

Summer Testimonies

This summer we are highlighting God’s power to save people through a series of testimonies. Every few Sundays, a church member will tell us a bit about their story and how God has been at work in their lives.  We hope these are as encouraging to you as they've been to us. Testimonies are a great reminder that God’s gospel is still powerful, spreading throughout Orange County, and saving individuals like us.

Jordan's Story

"If I was to go back and tell you the story of my conversion, I wouldn't be able to tell you
much. I was pretty young. I grew up in a Christian home. But there was a
decisive moment in my life when God gripped my heart and began to close the gap between
confessing Jesus and acting like Jesus. "

"This was just the beginning; over the next several years, I was taught to love theology, to love to serve, to love people, to love community. I was taught what it means to be a me...to be a man."

"If there’s one thing I could tell you today, it’s that God’s grace has already come. It’s
available now for you and I in Jesus Christ. We don't have to wait for it any longer, we don't have to earn it. It meets us where we are. "

Sunday in Review

1. WorshipGod Sunday -  On June 20th, Bob Kauflin from Sovereign Grace Music will be preaching on The Glory of God as the Motivation for Missions.  We will also have Matt Boswell (a worship leader from Dallas) leading us in song!  This is the perfect time to invite guests.

2. Covenant Eyes - Last week we began offering every member a free account to Covenant Eyes, an internet accountability service. If you will use it, we will pay for it.  More information available here.

3. Baptisms - This Sunday we will celebrate three baptisms at the end of the service. If you are new to the church or to the christian faith, you can learn more about the sacraments here.

Another opportunity to hear Pastor Eric teach from Mark.
