You Might Be A Deacon

Our Church Council met officially for the first time this past Wednesday, and as they met two important topics emerged. The first was that our current deacons are experiencing the promises of God...

"For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 3:13

The second topic was about you, the members of Sovereign Grace Church. We believe God will call some of you to be deacons in the future. Why? Because God is good and deacons are a gift from Him to His church.

May we not underestimate our deaconate.

Please join us in praying for the future of our deaconate ministry. Read up about what we believe about deacons, encourage our deacons, and ask God if you are called to be a deacon.

And btw...although we ordain only men as deacons, we believe women are called to fulfill deacon-like roles in the church too. We want to equip you to do the ministry of the church. If we don't find you first, contact a deacon or pastor and let them know you want to serve.

Youth Meeting This Thursday

All Junior/Senior High students are invited.

This Thursday at the Blackman's House, 7-9pm. We will be preparing boxes for Operation Christmas Child and Samaritan's purse.

What to bring.

Each youth should bring a few items to include in the boxes. Spend no more than $5 and go here for ideas and a list of what is/isn’t allowed. If you don't have anything, no worries. Come join the fun anyways :) We will also have games, food & passing of the duck!

Email Lisa for directions and more information.

A Visit From Our Sister Church In Seoul

Our Pastors Conference week closed with a visit from the pastor and his wife of our sister church in Seoul, Korea. Songhwan and Miran met with the pastors of Sovereign Grace Church in Pasadena, many Korean American pastors and wives from churches in Orange County, and 2 of our small groups.

The more time we spent together, the more convinced we became that God is going to use Sovereign Grace Churches to bless the church in Korea. Songhwan and his church are boldly proclaiming a message of forgiveness and grace. People's lives are being transformed. Please join us in praying for them, for their countrymen, and the future of the church in Korea.

The Pastors Conference Week 2015

Our partnership with Sovereign Grace Churches provides us with many blessings. One of these is our annual conference for pastors and church leaders. Although the conference is three days, the celebration often extends for a week or more. In fact, this week Songhwan Kang and his wife are with us through Thursday, meeting church members and other leaders from churches in the area.

We love our sister churches.

The Life Of Our Pastoral Team

“We pastors are being killed by the professionalizing of the pastoral ministry . . . The more professional we long to be, the more spiritual death we will leave in our wake" (John Piper)

Your pastoral team is committed to being a band of brothers who love one another like we love our Lord. No agendas. No demands. Vulnerable, dependent, and committed.

As these men (including the Pastoral Residents and their families) continue to adapt to the complexities of a growing congregation, they met recently to talk priorities. You can read the entire document here, but these were the three...

We want to know one another.

We want to grow with one another.

We want to build our lives into one another.

New Pastoral Resident — Dustin Smetona

We are on a mission to make disciples.

Last Sunday, during a bi-annual church member meeting, we announced Dustin Smetona as our newest Pastoral Resident. He and his wife have been an integral part of our church for years and Dustin completed an internship a few years back. We believe he is called to pastoral ministry and now have officially begun the process of answering the "when and where" questions.

Our Pastoral Residency program is a ministry of the entire church, not just the pastoral team. We all get to play a part in training and equipping future leaders. You can read more about this here.

Join us in thanking God for the Smetonas. Please begin to pray and ask Him to lead us over the next year or so. Our pastoral team will keep you up to date and if Dustin is nominated to be a pastor in our church, you will have a part to play in that process too.
