Why Christmas Eve? (Part 2)

A Stable Tradition in an Unstable Year

This year hasn’t been what any of us imagined it would be. We’ve been forced to face the reality that everything can change in an instant. If we didn’t realize that before, we know it now.

Our lives are fickle. God alone is unchanging. His steadfast love for his people never ceases. His promises always come true.

It feels like we need to believe that now more than ever. And hosting a traditional Christmas Eve service on a year that has felt anything but traditional, helps us take that to heart.

Join in this year as we remind one another that the most important things never change. Our Savior. Our church. Our hope. These remain forever.

We’ll gather at 6:00pm in Old Towne Orange on Thursday, December 24th to keep the tradition alive. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors. We’ll meet outdoors and physically distanced.

If you’d like to help serve, contact the church office and we’ll connect you with a leader.

Our Forever Family

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from 1 Timothy 5:1-2. He reminded us that our church is our family. That’s how Paul instructs Timothy to think of his church, that’s how we are to think of our church. It’s a glorious implication of the gospel that we are an eternal family with God as our Father and Christ as our Brother. We all have different roles in God’s household. The way we relate to one another matters.

Why Christmas Eve? (Part 1)

A Weary World Needs Rejoicing

Weary is an apt description of how many of us feel. We don’t need to list the reasons why. You already know them.

Our neighbors feel it too. This year leaves many feeling as though there is nothing to celebrate. However, those who know Christ always have a song on their lips emerging from the joy in their hearts. Those who know Christ know there is always something worth celebrating: the God who bowed down to lift us to heaven.

Christ has come to us. He has saved us. We have a song to sing.

We are hosting our Christmas Eve service this year so that our city can hear the sound of our rejoicing. They need to hear it. They need to be invited into it.

Plan to join us at 6:00pm on Thursday, December 24th to add your voice to ours. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors. We’ll do things safely during the pandemic by being outdoors and physically distanced.

If you’d like to help serve, contact the church office and we’ll connect you with a leader.

Your Self-Watch

A Brief Reading Recommendation

During Sunday’s sermon Pastor Eric mentioned “The Minister’s Self-Watch" by Charles Spurgeon. Read it and let Spurgeon help you ensure that your “heart, hands, and tongue agree.”

We Are Still Meeting

The Latest Pandemic Restrictions

On 12/3/2020 our state announced a new regional stay at home order, which depends upon ICU bed availability. On 12/5/2020, the southern California region fell below the 15% threshold for ICU beds and the regional stay at home order went into effect.

Fortunately, this order does not affect outdoor church meetings.

The status of churches is always available at the Blueprint for a Safer Economy webpage. Type in “Orange” for county and and “churches” for activity.

At present, there does not appear to be any lockdown phase that would halt outdoor church meetings. This is one of the primary reasons we plan to meet outdoors during the pandemic. Head here to see how we’re doing it.

Thank you for continuing to serve, support, and participate. God is preserving and blessing us through your acts of faithfulness.

Set An Example

Watch your life. Watch your doctrine. Then watch God work.

On Sunday Pastor Eric preached from 1 Timothy 4:11-16. The Apostle Paul encourages us to make sure that our heart, hands, and tongue agree. Our character and our confession need to match. Who we are is often more persuasive than our words. By God’s grace, may we give attention to what we believe and how we live.
