10:30AM This Sunday

New Service Time

We move to 10:30am this Sunday. The new time will enable us to linger longer after the service and not run into the lunch hour. Hopefully you paid attention in math class because this is going to get complicated.

Move your clocks back 1 hour this Saturday evening for Daylight Savings.

Move your schedule back 1/2 hour this Sunday for our new start time.

Snicker at your friends when they show up at half way through Sunday School.

Our First Worship Leader Apprentice

We have begun a new initiative to train worship leaders at Sovereign Grace Church. We call it a Worship Leader Apprenticeship and we are excited to announce our very first Apprentice:

Nate Adam

Nate has agreed to make a huge sacrifice of time to grow in his capacity to serve us. We are grateful to God for him!

Over the next several months, he will begin to start leading songs on Sundays.

A few things for you:

  1. As you see Nate leading, encourage and pray for him.

  2. Pray also that God would bring us more musicians who want to be trained to lead. We want to see churches singing gospel-centered songs all over Orange County! We will need more trained and equipped worship leaders for this to happen.

  3. Consider if God might be calling you to serve in this capacity. Our worship leaders are looking for people who want to be trained. If you are interested, email Dustin Smetona.
We Are Not Moving To Canada

God hasn't given up and neither must we.

Last Sunday, Pastoral Resident Kyle Houlton preached part 3 of 3 of our sermon series regarding the subject of government. Drawn from Romans 13, he reminded us that the government is God's idea. The Apostle Paul says that the authorities are his servants and ministers, for justice and welfare. Even when we are tempted to give up and move away, we are reminded that Jesus is the true and everlasting king.

This complete our series and we highly recommend you listen to all three during this election season.

Book Recommendation: God And Politics

In a society where religion is increasingly private, and faith is OK as long as it's not shared, many would seek to keep God out of their politics. But is that right, and is it biblical? This is an important topic to consider, not just for those working in government, but for all of us as we seek to be responsible citizens in a fallen world. Mark Dever unpacks what the Bible has to say on this topic, and teaches how we can "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's" without compromising on what we believe. We'll see that our duty to God is comprehensive and that there isn't an area of life that we can separate from His influence. This little book won't take long to read, but its impact could last a lifetime.

You can purchase this book on Amazon, but we have a better price at our bookstore in the church lobby :)

Pray For Our Government Like Never Before
Teresa "Tita" Smith - City of Orange Mayor

Teresa "Tita" Smith - City of Orange Mayor

Pastor Eric continued our 3-part sermon series on the government this past Sunday. Preaching from 1 Timothy 2:1-6, he exhorted us to pray like we have never prayed before.

Only God can keep us safe.

Only God can save.

Although there is cause for concern, we have much to be grateful for as we live and worship here in Old Towne Orange. We must continue to resist the urge to be partisan before we commit to praying for our leaders and authorities.

Listen to the sermon.
