We are building a culture of readers at Sovereign Grace Church.
We read because it helps us grow. We read because books and words are a gift from God. Our challenge to read one book each month is half way done. It is no small task to commit to reading regularly, but a small group of church members is still going strong.
Here are some of the sentences that they recorded in their monthly book reports. Click on the quote to see which book it is.
"By the end, Kenny put on a UF football helmet- even though he's a Tennessee fan. Hey, sooner or later, we all end up as Gator fans, right?"
"That same morning Adams collapsed in his favorite reading chair. He lapsed into unconsciousness at almost the exact moment Jefferson died. The end came quickly, at about five-thirty that afternoon. He wakened for a brief moment, indicated that nothing more should be done to prolong the inevitable then with obvious effort, gave a final salute to his old friend with his last words: "Thomas Jefferson survives," or by another account, "Thomas Jefferson still lives." Whatever the version, he was wrong for the moment but right for the ages."
"If what you most value can be taken away or destroyed, then you set yourself up for anxiety."
""And if you do this, if you act just a little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God. Or whatever politically correct spiritual representation of universal goodness you happen to believe in," he added quickly."
"True wisdom is strength while the desire to appear wise is suicide."
"Looking at our sin is challenging, but repentance is the door through which Christ will enter our lives to have fellowship with us."
